WHO WE ARE
FOR HER CHILD: From Asylum to Sanctuary is a community-led organisation that supports refugee mothers and their children.
FOR HER CHILD founder and director, Ruvimbo Mutyambizi, also known as Fierce Womb, is insightful and committed to building the reach of the organisation and establishing community confidence.
Ruvimbo has developed a company strategy that empowers refugee mothers and their children to truly enjoy their family life, rights, freedoms and obligations in the country where they are hosted. Her vision is for truly safeguarded interventions for families who have made the UK their new home.
Not content with narratives of refugee children being inadequately safeguarded in country, in addition to already being displaced, FOR HER CHILD will oversee the work of rmCERA, E. PwaAshino Consultancy, The Allow Institute, and practicalHELP to improve outcomes for refugee families.
Inspired by ideas of compassion and understanding we work to see an asylum and social care system that upholds and nurtures the mother-child bond.

WHAT WE DO

OUR REUNION STORY
FOR HER CHILD tag line, 'From Asylum to Sanctuary', refers to the condition of peace, stability and belonging that refugee families like Ruvimbo's seek in their host country.
FOR HER CHILD exists to provide the child rights sector education opportunities regarding adoption separated refugee families.

FOR HER CHILD recognises that according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) 1995 Policy on adoption of refugee children, 'It is UNHCR's policy that adoption should not be carried out if...it is against the expressed wishes of the child or the parent...'

FOR HER CHILD objects to enforced refugee adoption. Enforced refugee adoption is when a child who is not ordinarily available for adoption because of their protected refugee characteristics is nevertheless kept in an adoption placement.

FOR HER CHILD objective is to create a culture in the UK committed to keeping refugee children from being separated from their parents by social services since the adoption of any accompanied refugee child would likely be erroneous.

FOR HER CHILD cares about the wellbeing of refugee mothers and their children. Enforced refugee adoption is not in a child's best interests. We are given the reunion mandate in adoption policy and guidelines that govern the protection and care of refugee children by a host country.

FOR HER CHILD understands that enforced refugee adoption is not conducive to the refugee child's sense of self. That is why Ruvimbo has designed and introduced Expression Packs and Santuary Practice as inclusive tools for the empowerment of the community of refugee mothers and their children, in particular.

FOR HER CHILD is building more resources and a comprehensive body of work on enforced refugee adoption. Come, be a part of our story. You are welcome to work in partnership with Ruvimbo and connect us to other refugee families facing similar barriers to their family unity.
FOR HER CHILD aims to achieve reunion work together with adopters, social work and all child protection professionals.
FOR HER CHILD aims to see society go further with ending separation of accompanied refugee children and celebrate the story of every reunited child.
FOR HER CHILD aims to see more family stories thrive everyday.

EXPRESSION PACKS
FOR HER CHILD has introduced expressive play materials for mums to use with their children which we call Expression Packs. The aim being for children and their parents to play together.
Expression Packs are gift boxes offering play equipment and materials for children as well as vouchers and resources for mum. For example, a box could include:

-
a self-expression game resource
-
multi-textured books, stickers, stationary, craft materials, play dough and colored bean bags
-
a diary or snood for mum
-
discount vouchers (for refugee families)
-
FOR HER CHILD branded products
The packs are a special piece of the puzzle for harnessing healthy emotions through regularly taking an expression journey for improved self esteem and enjoyment of childhood.
Parenting practice and self awareness guidance cards are included in each box. These can be used by adults to take a child through that expression journey for improved self esteem and enjoyment of childhood. And where relevant - gaining new found peace in reunion and the significant change of circumstance this presents to a refugee child, their natural family, and their acquired ties.

Although Expression Packs have been developed with distribution to refugee mothers and children in mind, they can also be ordered/donated for dads, other relatives caring for a refugee child, foster carers and adopters.
In fact they can be useful to any family who want to engage with our resources in order to:

-
enhance communication and understanding about their experience of the mother-child bond in their own family
-
as well as exploring ideas of the experience of family life for refugee mothers and their children who are doing resettlement and possibly reunion work.
